Abstract :
Electrical vehicles are emerging as an alternative to internal combustion engine based vehicles due to the increasing gasoline prices, depletion of fossil fuels, and Environmental concerns. This paper focuses on the various aspects of vehicle to grid integration. These includes charging/discharging of batteries with respect to four quadrant operation of converter. Effect of electric vehicle penetration on distribution grid is carried out in Matlab Simulink environment to observe effects on different electrical parameters. Hybrid control algorithm for voltage source converter is developed for stabilizing grid against penetration of electric vehicles in which outer controller is a fuzzy controller and inner controllers are proportional integral controllers. Battery modeling described with the concept of extracting parameters from manufacturers discharge characteristics gives fast and effective solution and will be useful for not only Li-Ion batteries but also for Ni-Mh and Lead-acid batteries. Results for charging of vehicle batteries with hybrid control technique are compared with PI control technique for different loading condition that shows the feasibility of the proposed model and the capability of the control system for fast dc charging of vehicle.
