Abstract :
This paper proposes a hybrid quadratic programming and compact formulation method (HQPCF) to solve the nonconvex economic dispatch (ED) problem with prohibited operating zones (POZs) and network losses. Firstly, quadratic programming (QP) is utilized to solve the ED problem without POZs. Then a new constraint handling technique is presented to deal with the POZs limits. Based on QP and the proposed constraint handling technique, a promising solution is obtained. Lastly, to make a further exploitation, the POZs limits are converted to nonlinear constraints by compact formulation method and an interior point method is invoked to solve the resulting nonlinear programming problem. The efficiency of the proposed method is examined on 15-unit test system and 40-unit test system. Simulation results show that the proposed method can obtain desirable solutions with smaller calculation cost as compared with the existing methods cited in this paper.
