Abstract :
Recently, mobile devices have been equipped with authentication mechanisms based on biometrics to increase their security and usability. But, is biometric recognition really improving the devices´ security? Up to now, there are only a few works in the line of analysing biometrics performance in mobile devices but there are not proper guidelines specifying how to apply the current standardized methodologies which is necessary to guarantee interoperability and trustable results. This work covers this point showing how to carry on a proper performance evaluation in mobile devices, pointing the major inconveniences and suggesting several recommendations as guidelines for future works. This is illustrated with the evaluation of two common smartphones available in the market (iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4).
