Abstract :
Some of the home automation solutions support user manageable extensions, although with numerous constraints: e.g. requirement for specific controller devices, operating system dependency, or platform specific programming knowledge for development. This approach results in closed policy of home automation systems and excludes independent developers from anticipating in their expansion. This paper provides a concept and implementation that overcomes these constraints by developing extensions using common Web technologies. It offers mechanism for users to configure their system with new functionality, by installing or removing extension modules from system in run-time. Extensions can be accessed and controlled from various personal devices independent from operating system through Web interface. The solution was validated through development and installation of application for smart devices control, based on modern Web technologies. Still, only basic programming knowledge is required for extension development, making it facile to novice developers.
