Abstract :
Touch screen are widely used in the recent electronic devices. In this paper we present a novel and cost-effective webcam based touch screen conversion system for the conventional laptop or desktop using normal LED light. This system converts the normal screen into an interactive touch screen by means of computer vision techniques. In this system the problem of ambient light has been minimized using the brighter LED light which enhances the performance in complex light environments. The position of the bright LED light is easily determined using the scene geometry and camera model. With some further processing of the LED position, the system is capable of calculating the mouse cursor coordinates in the desired laptop or desktop screen to simulate the mouse actions in real time. The user can use the on-screen keyboard for the typing purpose. The system also includes gestures based interaction for playing games and performing additional windows commands easily. The experimental results and practical applications confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed system.
