  • Abstract
A modular matrix converter (MMxC) is one of promising ac/ac converters for high power and high voltage application as a family of modular multilevel converters. For variable speed applications such as motor drive, a broad frequency range of operation is required. However, it has been pointed out that it is difficult for the MMxC to operate under the condition the output frequency is the same as the input. This paper focuses on a broad frequency range operation of the MMxC, and demonstrates the proposed control scheme using space vector modulation makes it possible to operate even at the same input and output frequency through numerical simulation and experiments. Moreover, detailed analysis on current distribution among converter arms are presented.
