Abstract :
In this study, the proponents make used of fuzzy logic for designing an automatic dimming system with the use of Arduino microcontroller. Two membership functions for light sources as inputs and one membership function for the output were used. The proponents considered Environment illumination and Room illumination as inputs. The proponents make use of occupancy sensor for the system. This sensor was used to turn on and off the lights automatically if there is an occupant within the area. The output of the membership function of the control system is used to determine the dimming percentage of LED lamps. The dimming capability of the system was made possible by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The duty cycle of the DC power supply for LED Lamp was controlled by PWM. The power dropped across the load is dependent on the value of the duty cycle. As the duty cycle increases, the power dropped also increases and vice versa. The control system will automatically dim the LED lamps according to the condition of the luminance in the room. The room illumination is based on the IESNA (Illumination Engineering Society of North America) which is about 300 lux. With the use of this control system, the light output can now be varied according to the required luminance of the room, which results to the decrease of electricity consumption.
