Abstract :
In adaptive video streaming, rate adaptation is an important procedure for switching between different representations provided at the server, to cope with the network fluctuations. However, most of adaptation methods ever since mainly focus on the case of constant bitrate (CBR) video. In this paper, we present a new method that can effectively support variable bitrate (VBR) videos. Our method is buffer-based, where the buffer thresholds are dynamically controlled to cope with bandwidth behavior as well as changes in video content. The experiment results show that our method performs well under different scenarios of bandwidth fluctuations.
