Abstract :
Optimal power flow is a mathematical model that represents a physical power system optimization problem. It is a challenging task formulated as a highly constrained non-linear program whose solution states the optimal operating condition of the system. This operation point must satisfy the total power demand and limit constraints while minimizing a cost function. This paper presents a Modified Flower Pollination Algorithm (MFPA). To show the advantages of proposed algorithm a comparative study with other meta-heuristic optimization techniques is carried out. The numerical results clearly show that the improved algorith gives better results than Cuckoo-search and standard flower pollination (FPA) algorithms in terms of fuel cost value and time required to reach global best solution. In order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, it has been tested on a modified IEEE 30-bus test system.
