Abstract :
The ongoing enhancement of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a key factor in improving the development and efficiency of current Microgrids (MGs). The main fundamental technologies driving AMI are the newest generation of Smart Meters (SMs) and the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in appliances. Both of these technological innovations enable the design of an AMI with dynamic energy consumption prediction, integrated in broadband telecommunications networks. To predict the energy consumption an algorithm exploits the built-in load profile associated with each appliance in the MG. It was shown that by using an algorithm that queries and processes real-time energy requests at a finer granularity level, the MGs efficiency is improved. Moreover, application of this algorithm in clusters of MGs that share energy and communication resources increases the efficiency and reduces the peak load compared to the use of a single MG by dynamic energy consumption equalization.
