Abstract :
The core power density of double-clad fiber could reach 108W/cm2 due to the fiber laser beyond hundred watts or kilowatts. The end surface of the double-clad fiber is damaged easily by the high power destiny and the fiber laser even will malfunction. The double-clad fiber whose core diameter is 20 μm and the inner cladding is 400μm was spliced with the end cap by a new type CO2 laser fiber laser splicer. The new CO2 laser fiber splicer has advanced technology could guarantee a good splicing quality. Related experiment results show that 500W continuous wave laser can transmit steadily in double-clad fiber with the end cap in a long time. There is no sign of damage to the double-clad fiber with the end cap during the operation of the laser. The addition of the end cap doesn´t affect the wavelength and beam quality of the fiber laser system.
