Abstract :
A new class of semiconductor laser named slab-coupled optical waveguide laser (SCOWL) that appears several advantages of single mode and high output power has been investigated. The 808-nm SCOWL device we have designed was based on AlGaAs-GaAs material system. We have introduced the slab-coupled waveguide concept and combined it with the multi-quantum technology. Then we simulated the structure with the Corsslight software and analyze the results of some performances. Eventually, the results showed the high output power 1W at 1.13A with 12.5° (vertical) and 8.6 ° (horizontal) full-width-half maximum (FWHM). Our work has paved the way for the further study on the SCOWL device and a series of attached applications.
