Abstract :
This paper presents a microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with linear polarization and high-directivity, suitable for the use in base stations. Genetic algorithm (GA) is used to design the patch geometry and feeding position to resonate the antenna around 4 GHz. The patch has a rectangular foot print of 200 × 40 mm2 and is etched on a substrate of 240 × 80 mm2. The substrate is 1.52 mm thick and has a relative permittivity of 3.38. The MPA shows a maximum directivity of 13.2 dB at 4.04 GHz in broadside direction and can be used to replace an array having the same area. The simulations have been carried out in the HFSS environment.
