A Computer-Aided Method to Evaluate Teamwork

In the study, data collected from a series of experiments are examined to verify the effectiveness of using a proposed method as a teamwork assessing tool. In the experiments, students were randomly assigned to either cooperative or individualistic learning condition. Using the test performance of students in the individualistic learning condition as the reference, the level of functioning of each team in the cooperative learning condition was examined. The proposed method provided for each student a score measured relative to the reference. As a result, ineffective teams were easily identified. Students´ social support data confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method. In conclusion, the proposed method may provide a suitable basis for the development of computer-assisted solutions to complement existing commonly used survey techniques for more objectively assessing the team work.
