Abstract :
This paper applies the novel partitioned stator (PS) permanent magnet (PM) (PSPM) machines to hybrid and electric vehicle (HEV/EV) applications. A globally optimized PSPM machine having the same overall dimensions as the Prius2010 interior-PM (IPM) machine is presented. It shows that the PSPM machine can exhibit larger torque density, better flux-weakening capability, as well as higher efficiency. Furthermore, a globally optimized PSPM machine employing the same PM usage volume as the Prius2010 IPM machine is also obtained. It can exhibit comparable torque density as the Prius2010 IPM machine, higher torque at light load, and also a wider constant power operation range as well as higher efficiency.
