Abstract :
Users consumption of video grows everyday through many different plataforms. Beyond its role on traditional broadcasting, video transmission is becoming the highest load of Internet traffic both through wired and wireless networks. Video Quality Assessment (VQA) becomes crucial for regulators, broadcasters as well as network operators. The most accurate methods to measure Video Quality are the subjective ones, involving the opinion of actual subjects, thus obtaining a Mean Opinion Square (MOS). There are some international recommendations to perform the subjective tests, so their results are considered valid and reproducible. On the other hand, subjective tests are impractical for real time applications. Great research efforts in the last decade developed objective models. They are capable of predicting the MOS of a video clip from the analysis of its content or from certain parameters related to the codification or the transmission processes. The conference will classify the objective VQA models, deepening in a particular parametric model developed for digital television coded with H.264. It will also review the subjective tests performed to calibrate and validate the model, according to ITU-R BT.500. Finally, it will present the database of ratings and video clips and an application developed for automating the subjective tests; both are available upon request.
