Abstract :
This paper proposes the enhanced Test Zone Search (TZS) algorithm with Rotating Pentagon Search (RPS) to reduce the motion estimation (ME) time in HEVC. TZS shows a reasonable performance in terms of reducing the complexity of ME and still maintaining comparable RD performance. However, the computation complexity of the TZS is still intensive, and thus, this paper proposes the RPS to further reduce the ME complexity. Experimental results show that the proposed RPS can save the total ME time up to 18% while maintaining similar PSNR and RD performance compared to the original TZS.
