Abstract :
Natural and man-made disasters are difficult to predict and also difficult to manage in the aftermath, if managed with traditional communication methods and technologies. The incident in Nepal has shown once again the challenges national departments have when trying to successfully gather information on the whereabouts of their citizens in a foreign country, quantifying precisely their numbers or even get into contact with them to provide instant information where help can be obtained or assist evacuation. This presentation and demo will focus on how its possible to locate and track victims, to find them, be able to arrange fast evacuation or manage local rescue teams, all based on existing infrastructures combined with new alert and information gathering methods. The system has been successfully used during the Arabic Spring in multiple countries, in the aftermath of the Chilean earthquake in 2010 and provided also valuable information the whereabouts and exact traveler quantities in the aftermath of the Nepalese earthquake in 2015.
