Abstract :
A novel compact size triple-band microstrip antenna with and without fork like electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure is proposed for wireless mobile communication system. The proposed antenna consists of two simple Y-slots, integrating with compact size fork like EBG structure. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna is 20.5 × 23.5 × 1.6 mm3. The results show that the presented antenna cover three mobile bands with impedance beam width 28.72 MHz (1.48548 - 1.5142 GHz), 17.39 MHz (1.79134 - 1.80873 GHz) and 163.84 MHz (4.53034 - 4.69418 GHz) and resonant at 1.49997 GHz, 1.80003 GHz and 4.60004 GHz with return loss of -20.4248 dB, -14.7067 dB and -20.42458 dB respectively. The proposed antenna with EBG structure demonstrates improved performance in terms beam width, return loss, and radiation pattern over antenna without EBG structure. The design structure is fabricated using FR4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.4, loss tangent 0.02 and height of the substrate is 1.6 mm.
