Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks are networks comprises of large number of sensing devices deployed in a wireless environment. These networks are specially used to monitor the particular environmental conditions, weather reporting or event detection. To detect a particular event multiple sensors are involved and they must agree on a common time so, that they can perform a common task. Sensors have some characteristics like limited energy resource, limited computation power and small memory. So any method applied on sensor networks must account for these characteristics. Various algorithms are proposed for time synchronization problem in sensor networks. Timing-sync Protocol for Sensor Networks (TPSN) is one of the protocol used to synchronize the sensors. In this work an improvement over TPSN is proposed. Which reduces the effective number of message exchange required to synchronize the whole network, thus saving the energy of sensors and hence extending the lifetime of network. As the required number of messages are reduced, hence to synchronize the whole network, it also takes less time than the original one.
