Abstract :
In the world of electromagnetic (EM) simulation, increasing attention is devoted to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) oriented tools and techniques. It is important to evaluate the accuracy of the available simulation tools in operating situations of practical interest. In this perspective a common and relevant problem, related to the limits of radiated emission applicable for every electronic-based apparatus, is analysed with a 3D FEM field simulator: the EM leakage from a metallic enclosure with an aperture. Such analysis is useful for the valuation of the screening effect of the enclosure to give project level indication to the radiated emission limit. By comparison with accurate experimental measurements made in a semianechoic chamber, the relevant simulations parameters are identified and criteria to optimise the simulation accuracy are discussed
