Abstract
The fundamental objective of the presentation is to investigate the impact of knowledge centres on social relations. With regard to the basic functions of knowledge centres, their purpose and establishment, the issues the authors are interested in are those that relate to the transformation or modification of the current status quo; in particular, they start off from the circumstances of the Central and Eastern European countries. They try to outline the process whereby the knowledge centres force the transformation of the structures of the modern nation-state, which has been steadily losing its functions, and the evolution of a global networked society. The creation of knowledge centres would create an efficient institutional background for the fight against false beliefs and the breaking of informational monopolies
