Summary form only given. The background of e-commerce is overviewed with the evolution of the Internet, growth of Internet users, and a review of how e-commerce is affecting the enterprise in the e-world today. The evolutionary phases of e-business are outlined, and the role of the Internet in today´s organization is discussed. This paper outlines building blocks for e-business in three categories of infrastructure, applications, and integration. In order to devise an e-business strategy that will provide companies with a competitive edge, decision-makers need to understand the technological building blocks outlined in the paper, that will allow them to leverage their core competencies and synergistically fit within the goals of the enterprise. This paper should provide an overview to assist in this planning
