Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this paper, the current status of the explosive Korean broadband high-speed Internet access market is analyzed with respect to a deployment of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). Furthermore, Porter´s Five Forces model was applied to the analysis. The authors found that Korean broadband access market is explosively growing and that CATV modern Internet access service is growing at a low rate. On the contrary, more and more local broadband Internet access service users are getting connected to ADSL. Indeed, the authors converted seven ADSL service providers´ offering prices into US dollars. The result is that Hanaro Telecom offers the cheapest ADSL service in the world and Korea is the country of the cheapest ADSL service. Finally, they suggested four feasible reasons for explosive ADSL deployment in Korea and perspectives on ISPs
