Abstract :
This paper proposes a new Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm for Photovoltaic (PV) systems to deal with Partial Shading Conditions (PSC). The proposed algorithm combines the advantages of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach and Proportional-Integral (PI) control technique. The proposed Hybrid PSO-PI MPPT controller uses in the first stage PSO approach to locate the Global Peak (GP). Once the GP is attained, the proposed algorithm switches to the PI mode to track slow change in the GP location. An adaptive sampling time strategy (ASTS) is deployed to accelerate the convergence towards the GP. Simulation is performed under Matlab/SIMULINK environment to prove the performance of the proposed algorithm under different partial shading conditions. The results obtained shows fast tracking speed and high accuracy.
