Abstract :
Surface potential decay (SPD) measurements, have been considered as the most appropriate technique for the investigation of the corona charging of dielectrics, it remains the only technical used under the 5 μm thickness, but the main drawback of this technique is the loss of information during the first 3 seconds after corona charging turn off, particularly for insulating materials that fast initial decay, the aim of this paper, is to present a new setup of surface potential decay (SPD) has invented in the Electrical Engineering Laboratory of Guelma, enables taking the surface potential measurements in a short time recorded to 0.4 s, after the corona charging voltage was turned off. This instrument helps us to better understand the insulators behavior especially in the first moments. The new setup principle is based on the turnover 180 degree a plate wooden by an elastic object (a spring). The measuring probe and the corona discharge electrode are positioned in the center and symmetrically with the plate. The results show the effectiveness and importance of this new setup and its role in the recovery of important information during the first 3 seconds.
