Abstract :
The contribution presents some results of the DUET project which aimed, in the context of regional development within the European periphery, at analyzing ways to strengthen the peripheral economy by establishing and supporting university/enterprise links with the help of information technologies. Teleteaching and telemedia are seen as the interface between the university and the companies in order to enhance the continuous transfer of knowledge thus allowing enterprises to become learning organizations. DUET was organized in several phases to explore, e.g., the need for learning as a basis for transforming organizational structures within companies, the extent of involvement of Universities in such developments, the extent to which regional Universities are ready to, fulfill a role as know-how-supplier and the needs for the involvement of information technology to be a central technologic mediator of such developments
