Abstract
In this paper, the authors address some of the shortcomings of the traditional approaches to manufacturing system design and discuss how the design process can be improved through the perspective of cognitive systems engineering (CSE). Most of the literature on the design, adoption and implementation of these, systems deal with the technological aspects of the problem, but not so much with the organizational, political and social issues
