Abstract
Recently, it has been reported that when distributed renewable generators located in a wide area are interconnected, the power output fluctuations cancel out and the total power fluctuation decreases. Therefore, by interconnecting solar and wind generators located in different areas with different weather conditions, the capacity of the necessary stabilizing backup power supply is reduced. However, there is a need to determine the type, location and rated capacity of the renewable generators to be installed. This paper develops an optimization program based on genetic algorithm taking into account economic aspects in order to determine the optimal type and capacity of the renewable generators to be installed in each region of Hokkaido, Japan.
