Abstract
A three-phase to three-phase matrix converter is a bi-directional direct AC-AC converter that converts AC source voltage to another AC voltage with arbitrary amplitude and frequency. The matrix converter is more reliable and smaller than converter-inverter system because of no need for the bulky and short life-time electrolytic capacitor. Therefore, the matrix converter can obtain high efficiency, high power-density and high reliability. The input currents of the matrix converter contain harmonics caused by PWM control. This paper presents PWM strategy for suppressing input current harmonics of the matrix converter under high load-power-factor. This PWM strategy has two PWM patterns for suppressing input current harmonics in each state that defined based on output currents and voltages. The effective PWM pattern for suppressing input current harmonics is selected based on the sign of output current. The effectiveness of proposed PWM strategy has been verified by experiments.
