Abstract :
The growth of wind electric energy production during the last years shows a promising market for this renewable energy resource. Some aspects of it are well consolidated and there is little room to change the industry. However, further improvement is seen as the semiconductors technology and magnetic materials advance. In this context, this work presents a high efficiency wind energy conversion system (WECS) and, for that, control, topology and modulation are chosen in such a way that the highest efficiency can be withdraw of the system composed of the machine and the proposed power electronics converters. A three-level converter topology is briefly described and a loss minimization technique is applied to a permanent magnet synchronous generator. Finally, a comparison between methods is provided.
