  • Abstract
This paper presents the use of a three-phase switched capacitor converter to dimming of power light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The converter does not utilize electrolytic capacitors, providing a high useful lifetime. In addition, it can stabilize the output current in open loop control, without needing current sensors, which reduces the project cost. Moreover, the output power is proportional to the switching frequency, which facilitates the LED dimming. A 54 W prototype was implemented and experimental results are discussed. For rated power, the converter presented an efficiency of 82.77 %. The output power is reduced by up to 40 %, so that the drive continues operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and the power factor is maintained above 0.92 as required in the IEC 61000-3-2:2014.
