  • Abstract
Autonomous vehicle research has come of age with the advent of self-driving vehicles. While these vehicles have been developed currently as proof of concept, in reality, there is need for human-like behaviours in autonomous vehicle interactions. This research work addresses the utilization of gratitude emotion in order to enhance the coordination between so-called societies of Autonomous vehicles (AV) for better operations on the road. We have used the admiration emotion as defined by the Orton-Clore-Collins (OCC) model of emotions. We have computed local variables i.e. praiseworthiness and the deviation of appreciation emotion in the OCC model. A complete model based on a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS Mamdani) is presented. The model helps compute the admiration-intensity according to different AV -- AV interaction scenarios. This work lays foundation for enabling AVs to express appreciation emotions as part of interaction with each other as well as in developing better autonomous machines using a societal model.
