Abstract :
Reservoir sedimentation is generally classified as three types: delta deposition, wedge-shaped deposition and strip deposition. Among them the delta deposition is the most important and universal phenomenon in reservoirs yet it is still unclear to engineers and researchers concerned about its characteristics. This paper has taken a typical reservoir named Xi Luodu as a case to demonstrate some significant characteristics of delta sedimentation by numerical model. Results show that the entire deposition processes can be divided into two stages according to the sedimentation rate. The first stage is the majority deposits of the reservoir total accumulation volume and the second stage is characteristics by changing the shape of its cross-section to rebuild its new equilibrium. Both the delta profile and the cross-section deformation were discussed in detail.
