Abstract :
The thermal birefringence effect in Nd/sup 3+/-doped YAG ceramics has been investigated. The amount of depolarization induced by thermal birefringence is the same for ceramics and single crystals at the same Nd/sup 3+/ concentration, but increases with increasing Nd/sup 3+/-doping.
