Abstract :
This paper designs frequency reconfigurable microstrip antenna using Defected Ground Structures (DGS). The antenna designed with aperture coupled feed line to work at two different frequencies. Two periodical Dumbbell DGS geometry have been etched on the ground layer so that resonate at two different frequency band, (7.28 GHz to 7.73 GHz) and (8.55 GHz to 9.12 GHz), purposely working at meteorology and radiolocation systems, respectively. The frequency reconfigurable concept has validated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) before realized using switching network. The initial switching concept refers to open and short of antenna feed line. The two different size of dumbbell structures give two different resonant frequencies and parametric analysis shows that the size of square arms are significant with resonant frequencies. Consequently, reconfigurable frequency microstrip antenna is achievable with specific size of DGS.
