Abstract
To explore the statistical properties of experimental SNP data, a large number of experimental DNA samples from five populations (Africa, America, Europe, East Asia and South Asia) were subjected to statistical analysis in this paper. We classified the SNPs into different types based on the frequency of their minor alleles in the sample. The results show that the relationship between the number of different types of SNPs and the frequency of their minor alleles in the sample are very similar to the theoretical inferences and can be expressed by a power function. All of the populations carry excesses of very rare SNPs compared with the expectation, which reflects recent explosive increases in population size. Compare with other populations, the excessive very rare SNPs of America extends to a higher frequency, which reflects a relatively earlier start time of the recent explosive increases in population size. This finding is probably due to the region being far away from the battlefields of the First World War and Second World War. That the non-Africa populations carry excesses of high-frequency SNPs is an obvious sign of the founder effect, which indicates that the results are consistent with the Out of Africa hypothesis.
