Abstract :
A novel PET reconstruction algorithm, which can extract the radioactive distribution using both true and scattered coincidences has been adapted to handle the limited energy resolution of detectors encountered in practice. The results show that for hot regions, incorporating scattered photons into the reconstruction, improves the image quality more than simply rejecting them as noise. For cold regions the same is true, provided the energy resolution is better than 5%.
