Abstract :
Arc grounding faults appears in distribution system quite frequently. But the study of simulation model of the arc grounding is quite little. This paper mainly focused on the analysis of arc grounding process and proposed a new method theoretically to judge when and whether the arc should be off or renewed. There are two successive processes in zero off period of the arc: thermal breakdown process and electrical breakdown process. A method was proposed that use Mayr and Cassie model to simulate this two progress. And a simulation of arc model was built using the transient simulation tool PSCAD. After that, the simulation results are compared with theoretical analysis to verify the correctness of the model. In the end, this model was used to analyze the role of the Petersen coil in reducing the over-voltage caused by arc grounding fault.
