Abstract :
In this paper, an advanced fault location system for extra high voltage (EHV) transmission lines is proposed. This system is based on traveling waves, and contains the promoted single ended location method, automatic fault locating in teed circuit and location method under strong noise background. The presented system can significantly improve the location precision and reliability for EHV transmission line fault. This system is verified by an experimental system developed in the laboratory composed of a traveling wave generator and high speed data acquisition system. The experimental results show that this system had improved the accuracy and reliability of fault location results significantly.
