Abstract
The three basic elements of a fiber current sensor are a coil wrapped around a current carrying conductor, a light source and a polarization analyzer. The Faraday effect causes the plane of polarization of the propagating light to be rotated by an amount proportional to the current being sensed. One method of improving the measurement of Faraday rotation is to induce enough circular birefringence into the fiber to cancel the effect of the induced linear birefringence. However, the most practical solution to this problem is the use of spun elliptically birefringence (SEB) fiber. These fibers are produced from highly linear birefringent "bow-tie" preforms which are spun during the drawing process resulting into elliptical birefringence
