Abstract :
A Reconfigurable wideband and multiband E-Slot dual patch element structure is proposed. The antenna structure is designed using a FR-4 substrate. Antenna occupies a compact volume of 3925 (mm3) including the ground plane. Triple bands are excited by perturbing the current paths by introducing an E -shaped triple slot structure on each patch antenna structure. The two patch elements are connected to the feed line using PIN diodes. Triple bands are achieved by switching “ON” either of the two patches. And wideband mode is achieved by switching “ON” both the patch elements simultaneously. The frequencies of the triple band mode can be controlled by adjusting the position and dimension of the E-shaped slot. The three resonant frequencies of each patch antenna can be used for different applications. The advantage of the proposed antenna is that two triple bands and a wideband can be obtained from a single structure with same dimensions The effect of coupling between the two patch elements and the variation of the slot size can be studied to understand the multiband and wideband operation.
