  • Abstract
LTE is the next step of the broadband cellular technology evolution. It is referred as the fourth generation (4G) technology which offers better performance in throughput, latency, and spectral efficiency. It uses OFDM that is proven to combat inter-symbol-interference (ISI), multipath fading, and enabling scalable bandwidth allocation. Downlink LTE uses OFDM technology variation called OFDMA which enables multiple users accessing system resources at the same time. The increasing demand of real time services with larger bandwidth requirement makes the utilization of scheduling algorithms to manage system resource is very important. A scheduling algorithm which resides in eNB plays a key role in optimizing network capacity, throughput, and cell edge performances. The Proportional Fairness algorithm offers a good trade-off between total throughput and fairness values for users handled in the network. In this paper, we use Proportional Fairness algorithm with adaptive bandwidth allocation in LTE downlink system in order to improve scheduler performance when handling real time video service. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is able to increase system performance in terms of throughput, delay, and fairness.
