Abstract
Mammography is the most effective method for the early detection of breast cancer. However, low contrast and noisy images of mammogram makes difficulty to recognize the typical diagnostic signs such as micro-calcifications and masses. This paper introduces a new approach for image enhancement based on wavelet transform processing. Enhanced image is achieved by decomposition the mammogram images in different frequency sub bands, manipulate them by mathematical morphology, and Laplacian Kernel edge enhancement filtering, and, finally, reconstructing mammogram image from the sub bands. The results has been presented and qualitatively and quantitatively compared with two known mammogram enhancement algorithms. The quantitative analysis is also in agreement with the qualitative analysis.
