Abstract :
The need of voice recognition is now urgently needed especially when the atmosphere of the room is bustling so people cannot hear the sound. Visual information can be used for speech recognition for people who cannot hear or have a hearing impairment. This paper presents about the design of vowel pronunciation recognition in Indonesian language using lip angle measurement, and lips area. The vowel pronunciation recognition has several steps: pre processing, the key points search, the visual feature extraction. The values of these parameters will be compared to get the vowel pronunciation grouping. The decision making for the recognition is conducted by finding the value from one of the vowel range in the training database. From this research the vowel pronunciation recognition system using the difference if lips angle measurement and lips area are able recognize with the success rate is 90%.
