Abstract
In this paper, an 8-PSK digital phase detection engine for super-regenerative receivers is proposed, this extends the capability of receivers built on super-regeneration principle, paving the way to increased adoption of this architecture to serve different application scenarios, benefiting from its low associated power consumption. The digital phase detection engine extracts modulated phase information and performs the demodulation function. The detection engine is designed using 0.13 μm technology, simulation results shows power consumption of 135 μW for the whole demodulation function using the phase detection engine assuming a 2 Msps equivalent to 6 Mbps, i.e. adding power penalty of 22.5 pj/b.
