  • Abstract
The challenge involved in design of isolated photovoltaic power system of small rating is to select an operating point in P-V characteristics by controlling electrical load for maximum power operation. The I-V and P-V characteristics of PV system are non-linear, therefore it becomes difficult to track the maximum-power-point under conditions of varying insolation, shading and temperature. In this paper a new model called sine model for small 50W photovoltaic panel based system is proposed and investigated for enabling realization of shading conditions. The operating characteristic of sine model is analysed in comparison with single diode model. The control of boost converter by modulating duty cycle is carried out for the maximum-power-point operation employing proposed model of PV module to validate its effectiveness. The performance analysis of PV system with proposed model is simulated and presented for Maximum Power Point (MPP) operation. The parameters of proposed sine model are estimated using PSO.
