  • Abstract
Photovoltaic technology has been proven as an efficient renewable energy source. The power obtained from PV unit varies nonlinearly with respect to irradiance and temperature. Hence researchers are working to extract maximum power from the unit. Dc-dc boost converters are used to control power given to the load. Sliding mode control algorithms are developed to extract maximum power. First order Sliding Mode controller has a limitation of ripple and chattering effect. In order to overcome the limitation of chattering effect, a second order sliding mode control algorithm is proposed. The proposed system comprises of boost converter controlled by second order sliding mode control technique. The control algorithm is aimed for stabilized maximum power tracking. The proposed controller is verified as robust to load voltage as well as different environmental variations. Working and main features of the proposed electronic power controller are validated through simulation in platform of MATLAB/SIMULINK. The efficiency achieved by Second order Sliding Mode Control is 97.5%.
