  • Abstract
The operation of power system requires maintaining the balance between the load and generation. The system experiences load variations which results deviations in frequency and tie-line power. This generate overshoots and fluctuations in the system. The AGC represents the control of tie-line power flows and the frequency of the system. This paper proposes an optimal fuzzy controller in an interconnected two-area thermal-thermal system for minimizing the deviations in frequency and tie-line power. The parameters of the controller are optimized using PSO technique. A comparative analysis has been done for AGC of two-area power system using PI controller and PSO optimized optimal fuzzy controller. It is found from the comparative study that the PSO optimized optimal fuzzy controller provides better results than those of PI controller.
