Abstract
Public transport system is widely used in large cities for commuting on a daily basis. People use buses to go to their workplaces. But, lack of proper information about the bus arrival time at bus stops often leads to long waiting times at bus stops. Here, some methodologies to predict the bus arrival time and convey this information to passengers are discussed and analyzed. Technology based on GPS-GSM module to track the bus location has been discussed and analyzed. But, this incurs high cost. Recently, a mobile phone based participatory sensing method has been implemented and analyzed which incurs low cost, but mandates the participation of passengers in the process. Based on this, a new technology has been proposed here, as a solution. It removes the need of passengers´ participation. It reduces the anxiety of passengers since they know in advance, the arrival time of their bus.
